Terms of Use

Last updated November 3, 2026

These terms cover your use of DormUniversity (“we”, “us”), a free tool for planning a college dorm room. By using the site or creating an account you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. Not affiliated with any school or the SEC

DormUniversity is an independent student project. It is not associated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any university, any university housing or residence life office, or the Southeastern Conference (SEC). School names are used only to say which campus a room belongs to, and all trademarks belong to their owners.

2. Guidance, not a ruling

Room sizes and housing rules on the site are our summaries of public information. Many room sizes are estimates and are marked that way. Each rule shows the date we last checked it against the school’s published policy. Rules change, and a school’s housing office always has the final word. Measure your room and check with your housing office before you buy anything. We are not responsible for purchases, fines or other decisions you make based on the site.

3. AI features

“Can I bring this?”, the 3D models and the room pictures use AI services to read what you photograph or describe. AI can be wrong. It only describes the item; our rules engine decides whether a placement breaks a rule. Check the item details it fills in before you rely on them.

4. Accounts

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos, descriptions and designs you add. You give us permission to process them only to run the features you use, as described in the Privacy Policy. Only upload photos you have the right to use, and don’t upload photos of other people without their permission.

6. Fair use of the site

7. Open source

The site’s code is released under the MIT License. That license covers the code. These terms cover the hosted service at this address.

8. No warranty, and limits on liability

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months, which for a free service is zero.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top. If the change is significant and you have an account, we’ll tell you by email. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the new terms.

10. Law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA. Questions? Contact us on GitHub.
